This is a wonderful spot at the base of a mountain, or mesa, or whatever. The initial impression is that everything is clean and new. Camping spots are well arranged on a paved road and the shower house facilities seemed almost luxurious. There are little stone and gravel pathways through the camping area, so I walked our dog at night without stepping on cacti. Whomever arranged the campground did a great job of making it fit in with the scenery instead of imposing itself upon the landscape like a parking lot. We noticed that we could not pay at the pay station when we arrived in the evening. A sign indicated that we would need to pay at the ranger station in the morning. Hmmm? Warning sign that people are stealing the cashbox? When we paid the bill the next morning the the ranger confirmed that they had issues with criminals and that policy did not allow them to interfere with the criminals. Overall the park was quiet, beautiful, and seemed very safe. I would hesitate to camp here by myself if I were female, but there were plenty of other campers, and people (theft targets) with expensive motor-homes in the campground and nobody had any issues while I was here. The visitor center has some interesting exhibits, and the staff were very professional.

We stayed here in a Tent.

Enjoyed a night at this campground as we traveled between Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands National Monument. Lovely setting with hills on one side and fields on the other. Nicely spaced sites, many with huts to protect from the wind/sun. Bathroom block was clean and had hot showers. Only downside is that RV and tent sites are mixed together but there must be hookups as we weren't bothered by generator noise.

We stayed here in a Tent.

We stayed in this park February 2012 and it remains one of our favorites. You are away from the city, nestled up against the mountains and it is just a great place to soak in NM. Many sites are snug but we managed to sneak in a 37 ft RV.

We stayed here in a Class A Motorhome.
