This campground is about a 15 minute drive to Savannah. Fantastic city with lots of history and beautiful buildings, parks, and great restaurants. The riverfront area is terrific. There's much to see and do. We came for President's Day weekend. The campground has drive through full sites with 50 amp hookups which is really good for our 40 foot motorhome. It is great for birding, bikes, and light hiking. We think this is one of the best campgrounds we have visited and we definitely plan to come back during warmer weather months.

We have camped all the mountain parks and most of the middle Georgia parks, but we cannot say enough about this park. From the trees with Spanish moss drapery to the excellent wide, level and separated sites, this is why it ranks in the top of all the camping directories on the web. Skidaway has picnic shelters, an interpretive center, bath houses in clean and good repair and several miles of walking and bike trails. Some sites are 100 feet apart, some sites have full hook-ups, several sites have water and power. There are a few newly constructed cabins to rent. The park borders Moon River on one side so far away we could not hear any speed boats. The another side borders a "village" of offices and one general market and wine shop. Another side borders a gated community. The only annoying noise is the Air Force jets that occasionally pass over. Savannah with its River Street and historic district is 20 minutes away. Tybee Island is just over 30 minutes away. Will we return? Hell, yes.

We really like this park and recommend it to all our friends when they say they are visiting Savannah. It would rate 5 stars if it had sewer. There is a marine exhibit just past the park. They were doing construction on the road leading to the entrance of the park.

| One of the better State Parks | |
Skidaway is very close to downtown Savannah and just a short drive to Tybee Island. Most of the sites are pull thrus, very rustic with a lot of trees. The staff is very friendly and the campground hosts were helpful. We stayed two nights and would go back.

| Spacious, Shaded, Level, Mostly Drive-Through Sites | |
When we arrived in mid-December 2012 with an on-line reservation that had been made months previously, we were informed that there were problems with their well, that water was being piped in through a fire-hose and that it might not be safe to drink. I would have preferred to have been informed about the water problem ahead-of time, but we managed to fill our water tank off-site and avoided using the campsite's water connection altogether. Campsites are shaded and have a mostly gravel parking area. Each site has a concrete rectangular pad for the picnic table and a fire ring. The sites have electric and water hook-ups but RV campers will need to use the campground's dumping station for sewage disposal. We found Skidaway Island Campground to be a convenient, quiet, restful, woodsy location with a courteous, helpful staff but we're disappointed to not have been informed prior to our arrival about the water problem.
