Advice Negotiating a Price for a New Fifth Wheel
A friend of mine has been out shopping for a new fifth wheel. His budget is in the mid 40's. He recently got to talk to a sales agent who told him that there is a sale for two models: a 2013 Keystone Avalanche 341tg and a Dutchmen Komfort 3530FBH. According to the sales agent, they are both available for about $45K. It's within his budget, but he is still trying to see if there is a way that he can negotiate the price even further.

I recently checked the MSRP of these two models, and they are running between 61K and 63K.

Is what he's hoping realistic, or is it stretching it way too much.

The rule of thumb I was thought was never pay more than 75% of the listed MRSP price. That being said, yes, he can try to negotiate to get it for $40K. Of course, his success really depends on his bargaining skills.

I don't see why he won't be able to. It's always worth a try.

It all depends on how your friend will bargain for it. I would recommend that he first sits down and check to see what his bargaining chips may be. Telling the dealer that he'll be paying in cash or saying that he's willing to put in a large deposit can increase his chances of getting it for the price that he's willing to pay.

Very well said, melissa. It really pays to know your cards and how to play it right. I'd also strongly suggest to make sure that you got some ready cash on hand that you can do at least a reasonable downpayment. That was what helped us a whole lot when we were negotiating for a camper.
