Bringing Your Own Firewood
Heading over to North Carolina next weekend with some friends and our families. One of them is quite frugal when it comes to spending and would always bring their own firewood. I've read that state parks are quite strict when it comes to bringing your own firewood into their campgrounds. He said that for as long as the barks are taken off, it should be fine. I'm a bit uneasy about it. The last thing I want is having our trip ruined because of his wanting to bring his own firewood from his backyard.

Re: Bringing Your Own Firewood
Many parks require "certified wood". When I asked the ranger what is certified wood, he had no clue. Certified wood is wood that has been kiln dried such as pallets and pallet "sticker" and they have stamped numbers on the wood. It's done because they don't want wood that they think is carrying bugs of some sort but yet you can buy wood from a local person as though their wood may not have bugs. Yeah right!

Oooookay...so they require something that they're not sure what they are requiring? That's quite interesting.

You know what they say, sometimes the only way people would ever learn is through the hard way. I'd suggest to let him just bring it. I'm pretty sure he'll come around once he gets slapped with a $1000 fine.

I know that for as long as the wood is debarked properly, they should be fine.
