Gas/fuel is expensive, campgrounds are raising prices and maintenance on the road can be expensive. I live in the great tax state of New York, an hours drive from the state of New Jersey. Because of the cost of gas in NY, I will buy gas in NJ where it is about 30 to 40 cents cheaper a gallon. Gas is cheaper in the south re: Exit 3 in Georgia is the cheapest. Parking for the night, I'm not going 10/20/40 miles out of my way to find a campground. Rest areas and truck stops are ok but "some" can be noisey. Flying J truck stops are great. You can dump your tanks, fill with fresh water, refill your propane if needed, they have good food if you don't want to cook, they have an interesting store and you can stay the night. Any major highway has a Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes or Cracker Barrel restaurant at most exits and they love your business. We buy our groceries at Walmart, have dinner at a Cracker Barrel, ask the manager if it's ok to park out back and have breakfast in the morning. The manager will tell you not to block the dumpsters as they are picked up during the night. I do my own maintenance and I can change my own oil if I have to. Not as cheap as going seasonal but we love the open road. |
