Scenic East Coast Route
Looking to do a two-week early spring trip between New Jersey and Georgia. I want to avoid the major highways and hit all the scenic roadways. Does anyone have route suggestions?

Inland route? Coast route? I'm happy to do either.

It depends what you're into. I prefer the coastal route. The view is constantly changing.

When you get down to North Carolina I suggest taking Route 12. It's beautiful. When you hit Ocracoke you have to take a ferry which is a very nice ride, even if it's a bit of an inconvenience.

I have always travelled Rt. 13 to 17 all the way from Jersey to Georgia crossing over the Chesapeake bay bridge. The roads are good and there are many campgrounds and places to see all the way to Georgia. You can even use the Cape May Ferry. It is a great trip across the bay.

Does the Cape May Ferry run during the winter? I'd imagine it gets pretty rough?

How long is the ferry ride? What size vehicles can they accommodate?
