Overall we really loved this campground. However, you need to know before you go that there will be NO cell service. There is a public phone down at the entrance to the campground that uses ONLY phone cards. I don't really object to being out of touch for a few days but we had no way of knowing this until we were actually there. We stayed in the loop that allows pets and it was very nice. The showers and bathrooms are VERY clean and water pressure was good in the showers. There is a strict quiet hours policy which was well observed by almost everyone. ALMOST because at 5:30 AM on Friday we were awakened by clanging and banging and bumping that we finally realized was the garbage truck emptying the 5 huge bins at the entrance. Because our site was right up the hill it was very loud. I suppose there is nothing they can do about the schedule but it is too bad it has to be so early. If you have small children it might be best to book a site in the 20's which are near the bathrooms and far away from this noise. Certainly sites 6-18 are too near. They are also the sites that will get afternoon sun. There is a lot to do in the park and in surrounding areas and other than the garbage truck noise and lack of cell reception (with a phone that requires a card) I'd give it 5 stars. Get the right site and bring a phone card and it's great!

Friendly, convenient, excellent laundry and showers and hosts, beautiful. There are only superlatives for this campground. We visited just before the season started and took advantage of Passport America prices and enjoyed beautiful weather and Mt Desert just before the influx of summer tourists. We walked to the lighthouse, walked and rode our bikes to the town of Bass Harbor and two of the shorter walking trails. In the past 4 months we've stayed at a number of campgrounds and this one was far and above the best on all levels. And yes they have WiFi.

The Warning: Do NOT use the OH DNR map directions or Google. The camp is located in the eastern portion of the park on CoRd 218. Go east on 218 until you see the sign for East Camp. The Good: Nice, quiet campground with excellent hosts and caretakers. Clean bathroom with vault toilets. Lots of shady spots. Convenient to I-75 and to Findlay which has a number of things to do. Even when full the campsites are such that you feel private. The bad: no showers, there seems to be no ventilation in the bathrooms so they get hot, Bugs-yes, I know they are all over but bring a zapper-the flies don't care about bug spray. The water may be contaminated with fertilizer and pesticide run-off from surrounding agribusiness. Come fully loaded with water and buy bottled drinking water if you use a lot. This may be a temporary problem but be safe. Overall, we actually loved this campground because of the people there and the quiet. There is a train that goes by but we honestly did not notice it and though I-75 is close, the traffic is a hum at worst-more like white noise. It's not a place we'd recommend for a long stay but it's great for an overnight of several days. We went to Dayton from here and though a 2 hour drive it was nice to come back here for the night.
