Pinewood Lodge Campgrounds had everything that a camper would want or even need, including dining room with a bar. Very clean sites and good size as well. We only spent the weekend for our first Shakedown trip with our new camper. But we both liked the place very much and we will be back next season for sure!

We stayed just for a weekend. We found the sites to be very clean and good size. It was the first time that we took our two large dogs camping and stayed around the campgrounds. So we walked around and checked out everything there. Very clean and everyone including the staff was very friendly. We will be going back next season for sure!

We stayed for a weekend at the end of 2014 season. The campgrounds is set up for mostly seasonal sites and not many short term sites. The site we got was small and near the playground. The noise was not from the playground but from a seasonal site across from us. They were up partying until about 2 A.M. We tried to ask them to keep the noise down and it did not work. So we called the office and left a message on the voice-mail. It was no help at all! They only had one set of restrooms that were just redone and very nice looking and they also dropped off the firewood that we bought. That is about the only good things we have to say about Shady Acres. We will not be going back any time soon.

| Great place to camp! Easy to get to Boothbay. | My wife and I have been camping at Shore Hill for going on 14 years. We get a waterfront site with great views and easy to get our kayaks into the water. The staff will help in any way they can if you need help and are very friendly. The sites are large, clean and have trees around them to make it feel that you are all by yourself. Over the years we have tented, pop-up and now travel trailer. And we look forward every year to going back to Shore Hills!

Little Ponderosa Camp Grounds has been closed for 3 years.
We have never stayed there. But have drove by it many times. It looked as if it had a lot to offer.

Here is a recipe we make every year on our camping vacation while up in the great state of Maine. The owners daughter has become a very good friend of ours over the past 25 years and will not let me have the same campsite if I don't make this every year while there! So here it is and it can be doubled if need be. One big pot is all you need to make this one.
We call it SHRIMP BOIL. My Way 8 cups / 2 quarts of water 12 ounces beer 1/4 cup Old Bay Seasoning 1 Tablespoon salt 4 medium red potatoes quartered. 1 large onion cut into large chunks. 1/2 pound smoked sausage, cut into 1 inch chunks. 4 - 6 fresh ears of corn, shucked and cut into 4" pieces 2 pounds of unpeeled jumbo shrimp.
Instructions in a very large pot with a lid, Bring water, beer, Old bay and salt to a rolling boil. Cover with the lid to keep it boiling. Now stir in the potatoes and onions to the pot and cover and let cook for 8 minutes. After that add the smoked sausage and stir and cover to cook for 5 more minutes. Next add the corn and cover and cook for 8 more minutes. Now last but not least. Add the shrimp and stir and cover to cook for 4 minutes or until cooked all the way through. Now remove for the heat and drain off the cooking liquid. Pour it all on to a newspaper covered table. Then give it a dusting of more Old Bay. Serve with lots of melted butter on the side and plenty of paper napkins and dig in and enjoy with ice cold beer! This recipe will serve 4 - 6 people.

Re: Fondest Camping Memory | I would have to say after all the many years of camping with family and friends in Europe and in the United States. The most cherished camping experience would have to be all the times that I spent camping with my dad. He started me out when I was only four years old sleeping in a tent during the summer in our backyard. That's when I got hooked on all of this camping stuff! Our family went to Europe and we bought a VW Camper and camped in 21 countries for nine months. And all the things we saw and did while there. Then when I was in my early teen's and made it as far as I could with Boy Scouts. My father came home one night with used Army surplus jungle hammocks. So off we went that next week for what my dad called: " A Walk In The Woods" And that is just what it was. We lived on the edge of a small town in up state N.Y. and packed our backpacks up and off him and I went for three weeks off into the woods camping not knowing where we were heading off to? Yep it was fun alright. And that is it right there! My most cherished experience camping! My father is gone and I am older now just hit sixty! But still camping in an RV now but still enjoying the hell out of it! Thank's Dad!!

A Rub for Just About Everything! | Here is a recipe that I came up with years ago! It is sort of a rub and seasoning. I use it on most things I grill or smoke and BBQ. I call it: CHUCKWAGON RANGE RUB.
2 Tbs. Bacon fat 1 Medium onion, chopped 1 Clove of garlic, minced 14 oz. Ketchup 1/2 cup Worcesteshire sauce 1/4 cup Brown sugar 1/4 cup water 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce, Or more if you like some heat! 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard powder
Melt the bacon fat in a medium pot or pan. Add the onions and garlic and saute for 5 minutes over medium high heat. Blend in the rest of the ingredients and simmer for about 15 minutes on medium low heat and stir every 5 minutes. Take off the heat and let cool. Then I pour it into a mason jar and store in the refrigerator. Then just melt some in a small pot or pan when wanted. Just brush some on before grilling, smoking or BBQ. We have used it on almost everything from veggies to seafood like grilled lobster and shrimp, burgers, hot dogs, ribs and steaks!

Here is one that we do over the fire besides toasted marshmallows and smore's We always keep a jar of Marshmallow fluff in our camper. So one night here is what we did. We had some fresh strawberries and some Oreo cookies. We took the stems off the strawberries and put them on our marshmallow forks and dipped them into the fluff and toasted them over the fire. And we did the same with the Oreo's as well. And here is an Adult version of toasted marshmallows that we do also. Toast the marshmallows on the fork over the fire then dip them in a glass of Bailey's Irish Cream or Amaretto!! Let's just say WOW!! And why didn't I think of that?

Re: Have you Tried Hammock Camping? | My father gave me a old jungle hammock when I was a kid. I use to hang it up in the backyard and sleep in it all summer and thought it was great. I use to use it even when some friends would want to just walk off into the woods for a few nights. We lived on the edge of a small town and did that a lot even in the winter. Then I would just set it up on the ground like a one person mountain tent so I was not hanging in the wind on a cold night. I took it with me when I was in Boy Scouts for two weeks summer camp for a few years. In my twenties I found a brand new nylon jungle hammock and took it with me to Europe while me and a friend were motorcycling for three months over seas. Now that I just turned 60 I am glad to say that my wife and I do have a travel trailer and a seasonal campsite. But I still have that nylon jungle hammock and set it up each season and still sleep in it a few time during the season. My family and friends ask me why I do it? So I tell them what and where I have been with this hammock and some of the great times I have had with it. And they all say WOW!
