| Quiet & solitary campground with creek and fishing | We didn't stay here in July 2015. The drive to get to it took the wind out of our sails because of the extensive bark beetle damage to this part of the Rio Grande National Forest. The photos I have posted show that the grounds are unaffected so others might enjoy these sites. We drove through the grounds to snap photos and it seems to be a very quiet and solitary area which matches the USFS description for this campground. North Clear Creek does not run right next to most of the campsites, but is very close by and easily accessible. The fishermen with whom we stopped and chatted said the fishing was poor due to muddy water at the time, but angler shopkeepers say it's normally good fishing. North Clear Creek Falls is just a few minutes drive from here & totally worth seeing. We saw it in afternoon backlit light. Morning light should be much better for viewing and photographing.

| Excellent, clean campground with riverside sites | This is a gem of a campsite that we happened upon right off the highway, so accessible by all vehicle types. The sites are great! It's heavily wooded, has river access and though neighboring campers are close-by, it feels very private due to the trees. There is no camp host, but wood is available for purchase. The pit toilets are very clean. There is water and trash service at the campground. If you need ice, groceries or fishing supplies, South Fork is less than 8 miles away. The only down-side is that you can hear the highway traffic from the campground, though you can't really see it. The Rio Grande River runs pretty strongly through this area and its sound is more dominant than the highway, so the highway noise is tolerable. Fishing is pretty good right from camp or from a short hike along the Rio Grande south from camp to an area with some beautiful canyon-like rock walls with slower-moving pools.
We stayed here in a Tent.

| Quiet, remote wilderness after treacherous rocky road | It's a long, slow, rough 21 mile rocky road, not for the faint of heart, to get there. Road is one car wide only on a lot of it - next to drop offs. Thankfully we didn't have to back down to let anyone pass! The views are breathtaking. Be sure to bring enough water for drinking and clean up, as there is none. No trash or cell service either. Gather your own wood. Except for the pit toilet, this is a true wilderness area. It is maintained by volunteers only. Do your part to keep it clean and bring in everything you'll need. River meanders below the campground, so not audible or visible from the sites. which we were a bit disappointed about, but it is accessible walking distance down the road. Best to fish with waders, as there is a lot of scruff by the edges. This is not the best destination for fishing. This is for those who want a very remote wilderness experience. Sites are divided on each side of a hill with large trees, so are fairly private, but some of them are fairly unlevel. The table, the fire pit and the tent area in our site (#9) were all very crooked. We'd give the campground three stars, but the landscape five.
