| Great park but get's busy | What a great park to visit! There are a lot of miles for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding (my absolute favorite). The sites themselves are huge and well-spaced. The entire park is really quiet at night, so it's not that hard to get a good night's sleep. I would have given it a five-star ranking, but there are a few setbacks. First off, there are no sewers in the sites so you will need to haul over to the dump station to get rid of it. Also, it is fully booked during the month of January - when we made the trip. Even though we already made a reservation, we were asked to move from one space to another after three nights.
We stayed here in a Class C Motorhome.

There is a lot of noise from highway traffic. Cracked paved sites and weeds. General up keep could be improved. Forget about cable unless you want to fork $3 a day just to watch TV. The park also has WiFi but it was very weak at our site.
Does have a lake with activities for kids, but as with every KOA you have to pay for everything.

| Very nice resprt and friendly staff | Very nice RV resort and a nice size too. Staff were very friendly and helpful. There are a lot of facilities here and all that we saw were well looked after including the store, swimming pool, restrooms, playground, beach area for swimming in their lake. The kids loved their time here.
Site was gravel, nice and flat and shaded, perhaps a little closer together than we would have liked. Mixture of seasonal and overnight campers here. Only gripe and it's a small one, is that it can get a bit dusty if someone drives by too fast.
Also no WiFi and cable at our site. Don't care about the cable but WiFi would have been nice.
Overall recommend this place and great for families, but if WiFi and cable is important to you, then check to see if they have it when you make your booking. I was told they were working on it and they should be available in the near future.
We stayed here in a Class A Motorhome.

Re: Back Country Camping Site | Right on, Matthew! It's also great to bring someone along with you that's got experience backpacking and backcountry camping if it's gonna be your first time. It's a long ways off from civilization and help.

Re: Making Meals Ahead of Time | That's true. Of course, it also depends on who we're camping with. Whenever my wife and I get the chance to go camping without the kids, we only pack a bit of the meals. But if they are with us, we pack a bit more. They can be quite finicky, and there are even times when they would get hungry at odd hours of the night. At least when that happens, they can just grab something from the refridge

Re: Pay as You Go Internet Plan for iPad? | Just how much time do you intend to spend on the Internet while you're on the road camping? If it's just minimal like trying to get directions or looking for a campground to stay or check emails, that sort of thing, I'd personally go with either harold or Matthew's advice.

Does buying more expensive stuff mean that you're getting better quality camping equipment? I recently had a debate with my brother on this after he told me that he spent about $500 for a sleeping bag. He told me that it would eventually come out cheaper in the long run because he won't have to change it as often. Does he have a point, or am I just being too much of a Scrooge?

Using Safes in Campgrounds | Many of the campgrounds we've been to has got a safe that the guests can use to keep their valuables. But honestly, I have to wonder if campers use these. I personally don't. I'd rather keep our valuables with us rather keeping in a safe elsewhere. I'm just curious if anyone out there that do use them.

Re: Camping location Coloma | Welcome to the forums, smith!
We stayed here a couple of years back. I'd suggest to try to stay at the main level. The river frontage may sound really nice, but the sites had only very limited hookups (just electricity and water). The riverfront was also quite dirty so not really much to look at.

Re: US Cellular Internet Connection? | That is also what I heard. They do have some tie ups with other communications companies so that they will have a wider coverage area. But since they are just tie-ups, there might be additional fees that you need to pay if you're no longer in the Midwest area and you try to use this. If you're doing your camping mostly in the Midwest area, you can still go for this and then if you go out of the Midwest, just go ahead and buy a prepaid Wi-Fi card to use. That way, you don't have to worry about the extra fees, if there are any, or the reliability.

Re: Superbowl best Campground | Hahahaha!!! Good point, Matthew!
No doubt, there are a lot of different campgrounds near the stadium that you can stay at. But to be honest, I've never heard yet of a football inspired campground. I'll ask around to see if my friends have more luck.
