| Beautiful setting, plentiful wildlife, great for solo travelers |
I stopped at Lake Barkley during a September 2011 cross-country solo trip - my first night camping solo was spent at this great campground.
Located in close proximity to Lake Barkley Resort's main lodge, marina, horseback riding trails, swimming beach, golf course, and more, this loop of spacious sites featured a variety of spots. I chose a lakefront site, with a wide asphalt parking space, a raised dock with picnic table, and a neglected fire-pit that I had to rebuild.
I had an amazing experience with my first night camping alone, and felt safe the entire time. There were only a handful of other people scattered throughout the campground, but I was never worried.
The lake is absolutely gorgeous, and is home to a variety of woodland creatures. I saw flocks of turkeys, young deer, friendly raccoons, and even a beaver.
