Cheaper on Propane?
With the gas prices going up, I was wondering if it is possible to convert a gas powered generator so that it can run on propane instead. Also, will it be cheaper to run it on propane rather than using gas?

Actually, it's quite the other way around. You'll actually be spending 50% more if you're going to run your generator on propane rather than on gas.

I agree. In some areas, propane is actually sold at a higher price than gasoline and diesel.

Re: Cheaper on Propane?
I guess it really depends on where you are staying. We live in Arizona and here, propane is actually cheaper by $1.00 than gas, which is definitely a lot of savings if you add it up. But the downside is that the situation is not true in all of the states. Like what padmej said, there are some states where propane is much more expensive than gas. I'd suggest to try to research the amount of propane sold in most of the places where you usually camp and base your decision from there.

Re: Cheaper on Propane?
I agree with melissa. It all depends where you're staying mostly. If propane is much cheaper in your area, then by all means, go ahead with a propane generator. But, I would personally suggest that if you're going down this direction to get a generator that really runs on propane rather than have this converted. Converting things can lead to a lot of problems in the future. It might be cheaper when it comes to the fuel that you use, but the repairs can just cancel it out.
