A wonderful work in progress

The great perks of this campsite; 1. a free bus stop on the campground for a ride into downtown. 2. amazing view from the campground of surrounding mountains. 3. Access for wading of fishing to the river 4. Shaded tent sites 5. An amazingly stocked convenient store 6. Incredibly friendly brand new staff.

The down side was the bathrooms are very dated and in need of some repairs. The staff had just started less than 2 weeks prior and was still getting their bearings to try to put in place the changes they wanted. We had very drunk men next to our young family and there was no one to police during quiet hours to quiet them down. When we told the staff they were very apologetic and explained the recent changes and asked us to come back for a free night and experience how much better they planned to make it.

Secluded but not quiet

So this campground is right outside the town of Hayden, CO. It is 30 minutes from Steamboat Springs and all the activities there. The campground has nice shaded tent sites and the facilities are very clean but the showers are $.25 a minute. The downside is it sit right on main highway 40 which is a busy road and you cannot access the river from the campground because this section of river is not owned by the state park. The river access is just a 1/4 mile before the campground but there is no good way to walk there unless you walk route 40.

clean and well staffed

This place was the perfect find. We snagged their last tent spot and got first class attention from the front office and the staff around the grounds. The campground sits in a valley and is well protected from the high winds today. The river side spots are beautiful and will be what we hope to reserve next time.
