| Great views and relatively secluded | Having camped at another campground on the other side of the river last year, I was very pleasantly surprised with this campground. It was clean, quiet and secluded. The sites, however, are relatively small. We had a group of 6 and it was difficult to find room for 3 tents and 3 cars. But since it's half the price of the campground across the river, I think next year we'll just get two sites!
The office was closed all weekend, but a park ranger did come by presumably to check that we had registered. The bathhouses were nice (and heated!). The tent-only area was closed for the season, but I wouldn't have wanted to camp there anyway - they had a view of a golf course, whereas we had a nice untainted view of an island where we saw a deer hanging out. There was plenty of wood to scrounge for the campfire, but I did not see any place to purchase it. Also, very minimal light pollution which was nice. A bit of traffic noise from I-80 though.
Mt. Tattany is nearby and was a nice hike, though VERY crowded. There are a few trails accessible from the campground, though, which we didn't have time to check out. If you've only ever been to the PA side of the Delaware Water Gap, the seclusion and quite on the NJ side will be a nice surprise. We drove through the Gap for quite a while and hardly saw a soul.

This was my first experience in the Adirondacks, and I don't think I could have asked for a better experience. We rented a whole island (Sable Island, 3 camp sites) for a group of 7. I was pleasantly surprised to see how big the island was! My SO and I were able to set up at one camp site and were still so far away from the group that we felt completely alone, but we could still walk over to hang out when we wanted.
We took a canoe into the island. It was a fairly long trip, but not bad. Our friends had a boat, and there was some confusion at first as one of the boat launches was supposedly closing which meant they couldn't dock the boat anywhere during the week (this ended up not being the case, but I would suggest calling to clarify the situation).
Another con was the toilet. I would have rather been told there was no toilet, because it was so disgusting, being in there made me want to vomit. Thankfully the other two toilets on the island were decent.
Final downside was our proximity to the road. At night, there was little to no traffic on it, but the occasional truck noise was disappointing. I would probably choose a different campsite for that reason.
BUT, the views, the STARS! (so many!) and the seclusion was absolutely worth it.

Let me start out by saying - I REALLY would like to give this campground 5 stars! It's in a wonderful, picturesque location near excellent trails, far enough away from the road that you're not waking up to the sound of an 18-wheeler. Far enough away from any light pollution that you will see more stars than you have in a long while. It's clean and the campsites are a good size, each separated by a small area of foliage.
We got a river-front site and had to walk-in maybe 50 feet (there were more that were further away). We woke up in the morning to see the Delaware River right from our site. There was a trail (though steep) at our site down to the river.
Portopotties were clean and relatively close by. The bathhouses were very basic, but clean.
The biggest downfall? Having to pay $7.99/bundle of firewood, just to have to chop it to tiny pieces and scrounge for branches to get it to light. It hadn't been aged one bit!
