Well-Run Family Campground - Needs Some Upgrades

Gold
August 11, 2013
Located right on the Delaware River, 3.2 miles south of I-80 on Highway 46E, this campground has many positive attributes going for it but needs some upgrades. We arrived after a heavy downpour and found ourselves stuck in the mud at our assigned site, which was on a grassy slope. At our request, they sent a crew with a big tractor to tow us out of the mud, then reassigned us to a fairly level, gravel-covered site.

Although getting stuck was not a good way to begin our weekend, our remaining stay was pleasant. Like many New Jersey campgrounds this one has about half of its spaces occupied by long-term campers, some who've even planted gardens. Many of the sites are grass-covered with shade, but they are not well-suited for RVs because they have a significant slope and the connections are inconveniently situated. Even our level, gravel-covered site, to which we were reassigned, required a 50-foot water hose, stretching our power cable to the maximum and buying a longer coax to make the cable TV connection. Although the campground offers Wi-Fi, the more desirable campsites near the river have a weak or nonexistent signal. Not surprisingly, the campground was not hosting many motorhomes.

None of the short-term sites offer sewer or 50-amp electric hook-ups. The included cable TV features 20 analog channels. On the plus side, they have good security, water activities, a pleasant, helpful staff and well-stocked store.

We stayed here in a Class A Motorhome.
