While heading out on a road trip for the Memorial Day weekend, we noticed that all of the gas stations that we stopped required us to swipe our card multiple times. According to the guy at the gas station, we are only allowed to gas up to $100 at a time.
In my years of camping, this is definitely a first for me. Is this now the trend with most gas stations now? |

Unfortunately, that's pretty much the norm in many gas stations for quite some time now. I guess you have been just so lucky to have avoided them this long. It's supposedly to protect the gas stations from not being reimbursed from transactions that have been disputed by credit card holders. At least, that's what they say. Nevertheless, it's still really frustrating. |

Yup, it seems to be the trend, although the limit varies, last time I filled up, (at a Flying J), it was $150., which was ok this time, as that filled it. I've seen as low as $75. |

I think it all depends on the limit that the credit card companies have given to the gas companies, which is why there are times that I would rather just pay in cash for the gas. Less of a hassle. |

We've come across a few of those as well. Some had a limit of just $75, while others had a limit of $100. Like padmej, I discovered that the limit is only if you pay via credit card. They don't impose the limit if you pay in cash. |
