Head light switch

Last night coming out of South Carolina my headlights suddenly WENT OUT!!!!! They came right back on but did it once more further along. I pulled in a truck stop and spent the night. The head light switch is very hot and none of the other running lights were affected. Looks like I need a new switch. This is a 97 Winnebago Luxor on a Freightliner Chassis but it looks like the light, wipers, ignition, etc switches are all GM. Does anyone know for sure what will fit this thing as they have parts off of everthing on them. I drive a lot at night and need headlights. Thanks

I ended up glueing a small computer fan to the back of my switch. It appearers the switch is mounted so far in a tight area that there is not enough air circulation around it. since adding the fan I have not had a problem. I wired it to the switch so it turns on with the switch. Mine got so hot you couldn't touch the metal stem when it was pulled out. I tried adding relays to the headlights, but no joy. I think the heat comes from the dash lights dimmer function. Mine is a ford switch.

I had a problem with a headlight switch in a Bronco II, it melted and the first replacement melted. What I found was the spades on the plug was not fitting tight when it was plugged into the switch. Some of the wires had gotten so hot the plug had melted, and some of the spade lug wires were also melted. I ended up repairing with new spade connectors, several wires. That solved the problem.

How long was it before you realized that the wires and spade connectors were damaged?

I recommend you go see a mechanic. Obvious but...seriously you dont want a homemade solution to this as it could seriously damage it further and cost you more money. Call the company and ask what parts work best and roll it in to a mechanic.
