Offering Your RV for Rent |
|
|
Last year, we didn't get the chance to go camping as much as we'd like to so our Motorhome stays in the storage for quite a considerable time, which can really cost a lot of money. My wife and I have been thinking about renting it out to other campers. Something like about 10 weekends per year. At least, we don't have to keep it in the storage for long periods of time so we pay less than what we did last year, and we can get some additional income which is always a good thing.
Has anyone done something like this or doing something like this? What are the things that we need to have aside from the appropriate insurance? Is there anything that we might be overlooking?

Now that you mentioned it, the idea crossed my mind as well, especially since my wife's been hinting of getting this MH that we saw in an RV show a few weeks back. What I know is that there are a lot of documents and additional paperwork that you will need to ready if you'd want to rent out your RV to other people. You're gonna have to upgrade its insurance as well. I know that there are some RV rental companies that would help you with the marketing. You can try checking some of these out online on what the requirements will be as well as how much is the amount that you'll get every time to weigh it out. |

Haven't really considered about renting out our trailer to anyone. Then again, the only time that we would stay home and not do any camping is during the winter time because my wife finds it way too cold to stay outside. |

Personally, I'd rather not. Maybe it's because my husband and I poured out a lot into our Motorhome to make it our home away from home when we go out camping. Yes, there is added income, but there is always the risk that something might get damaged while another person is using your RV. Plus you don't really know how well they will handle it. Not to mention the initial overhead expense of upgrading your insurance for it and stuff. |

I agree with Alban. Do some research on how much it will cost you to have the RV ready to be rented out, especially when it comes to the cost of the insurance upgrade and the increase frequency of the maintenance checks and repairs that you'll need to do. Also, if you're planning on going through a third party to help you rent out your RV, how much are you really going to be making minus their commissions and their fees. Then there is also the thing about the ratio of the number of times your RV will actually be rented out. It's quite a lot of stuff to look into, but this will give you a better idea to see if renting out your RV is going to be really as lucrative as you'd hope it would be. |
