How reliable are campground reviews?
Every time that we would go and do some search for campgrounds, one thing I noticed is that some reviews are not really that accurate. We've been to campgrounds that has gotten really great reviews only to find that it was a complete dump. On the other hand, there have also been a few campgrounds that have gotten really bad reviews yet when we got there, everything was great. It just makes me wonder how reliable are campground reviews posted online? How much of what they say do you take into consideration when choosing which campground to stay at?

Re: How reliable are campground reviews?
I agree. I actually find forums like this more helpful when it comes to finding reliable feedback about certain campgrounds. Not that I am saying that I ditch checking out reviews completely. I still check them once in a while. But the nice thing about forums for me is that you can get to get tips and suggestions from campers that have stayed in a particular campground.

Re: How reliable are campground reviews?
Personally, I think a lot of people use reviews as a means to just simply rant out their frustrations on a specific campground. On the other hand, some campgrounds actually use it to up their image by putting in great reviews of themselves. However, there are still a few people that give constructive reviews about them. Whenever I look at campground reviews, I would try to weed them out, and just focus on those constructive ones. Just like liz, I also like getting feedback on forums because you get to communicate with those that have actually stayed there and even get a few tips like which site to avoid, any unwritten rules and policies and when is the best time to go there. Since I got a lot of friends that are also into camping, I would also ask their opinion. I take all of these into consideration whenever I go and choose which campground to stay at.

Re: How reliable are campground reviews?
I rarely check out reviews these days after going to one campground that I found to have nothing but great reviews, only to arrive at a dump. These days, I'd rather just ask in forums or friends on campground suggestions.

Re: How reliable are campground reviews?
Reviews are still a good reference for me whenever we go out and choose which campgrounds to stay at, especially if it's our first time to go a certain city or state. But like what others have already mentioned here, this is not just the only thing I consider whenever I choose a campground. Asking friends, checking out forums are also great places to look for insights. Above all, I usually also go with my gut feel.
