On a winter camping trip, nothing sounds better than a hot and hearty meal eaten by the campfire after a long day spent exploring and enjoying the great and snowy outdoors. Soup is easily one of the best foods you can have for beating away the cold. What's not to love about soup? Soup is a one-dish meal that's easy to prepare and serve. With the right ingredients, it can be very nutritious and energizing. Plus, it's very filling and good to eat, especially when served hot. On a winter camping trip, soup is the ultimate comfort food.

With that in mind, we have listed here five tasty camp soup recipes you can try out on your next camping trip this winter. Why don't you give them a try?

Camp Beef and Vegetable Soup

Serves 4-6
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 40 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 head cabbage, medium, chopped
  • 2 carrots, medium, chopped
  • 3 potatoes, large, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, chopped finely
  • 1 46-fluid ounce can tomato juice
  • Whole kernel corn (1 can or 1 bag frozen)
  • Green peas (1 can or 1 bag frozen)
  • Asparagus (1 can or 1 bag frozen)
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. 1.  In a soup pot, cook the ground beef until it is brown.
  2. 2.  Add the garlic and cook until slightly brown.
  3. 3.  Add the onion. Cook until the onion is transparent.
  4. 4.  Add the tomato juice and allow it to boil.
  5. 5.  Once tomato juice is boiling, add the potatoes. Cook until the potatoes are tender.
  6. 6.  Add the rest of the vegetables. Cook until the cabbage is tender.
  7. 7.  Season with salt and pepper

Chicken Ramen Soup

Serves 4-6
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 6 cups of water
  • 4 packages chicken-flavored ramen noodles
  • 2 boneless chicken breasts, cut to bite-sized pieces
  • 2 medium carrots, chopped or shredded
  • 1 head cabbage, small, shredded
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp. ginger, grated
  • 2 tbsp. sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp. soy sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1.  In a soup pot, heat the sesame oil and sauté the garlic and the chicken breasts. Cook until the chicken is browned.
  2. 2.  Add the water and let it boil.
  3. 3.  Once the water is boiling, add the ramen noodles, the grated ginger and two of the flavor packets that come with the noodles. Cook for two minutes.
  4. 4.  Add the rest of the ingredients. Cook until cabbage is tender.
  5. 5.  Season with soy sauce for added flavor if desired.

Corn and Sweet Potato Chowder

Serves 4-6
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 bacon strips, chopped into small pieces
  • 1 white onion, medium, chopped or diced
  • 6 sweet potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 2 cans whole kernel corn
  • 1 can cream of corn
  • 1 cup water
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. 1.  In a soup pot or deep skillet, cook the bacon.
  2. 2.  Add the onion and cook until the onion is transparent.
  3. 3.  Add the water and the juice from the cans of kernel corn. Let it boil.
  4. 4.  Once the liquid is boiling, add the sweet potatoes and cook until the potatoes are tender.
  5. 5.  Add the kernel corn and cream of corn.
  6. 6.  Season with salt and pepper.

Potato, Cauliflower and Chicken Soup

Serves 4-6
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 2 boneless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 white onion, medium, sliced
  • 2 potatoes, large, diced or mashed
  • 1 head cauliflower, large, chopped or pureed
  • 4 cups vegetable broth
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. 1.  In a soup pot or deep skillet, melt the butter.
  2. 2.  Sauté the onions until transparent.
  3. 3.  Add the chicken breast and cook until browned.
  4. 4.  Add the vegetable broth and bring to boil.
  5. 5.  Add the potatoes and cauliflower. If the vegetables were chopped or diced, cook until tender. If mashed or pureed, cook until the soup has thickened
  6. 6.  Season with salt and pepper.

Basic Beef Chili

Serves 4-6
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground lean beef
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can white beans
  • 1 can red kidney beans
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 2 cups beef stock
  • 1/2 cup green and red bell pepper, chopped
  • 4 tbsp. jalapeno chili peppers, finely chopped
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tsp. cumin powder
  • 3 tbsp. chili powder
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. 1.  In a soup pot or deep skillet, combine the beef, bell peppers and onions and cook until the beef is brown.
  2. 2.  Add the beans and the beef stock, and then bring to a boil.
  3. 3.  Add the rest of the ingredients and allow to simmer.
