| A great park with one major downside | There's no doubt this State Park is beautiful, with its lovely scenery and nice trails. The sites are smallish but not really a problem unless you've got a toad or a big rig. The hookups work, and the wi-fi signal is strong enough. The dealbreaker here is the bathhouse is usable but could use a more thorough cleaning.

This state park has some really nice views. We enjoyed them while hiking and hanging out at the marina. It's an awesome place for fishing. Sites are large and clean but don't have sewer hookups. Not all sites are level, which is the only reason I didn't give this park a five. The staff are really friendly.

We stayed here on a weekday so we practically had the beach to ourselves. Not sure how crowded this place gets on weekends. That strip of sand was great for some leisurely strolls, but the water didn't look safe for swimming. The park is dog-friendly and we didn't have problems with bringing my dog to the beach on our walks. No hookups, so dry camping, although there are some water spigots for washing up.The toilets work. Campsites are tight, and you have to leave your vehicle at the parking lot. Okay for just short stays this campground is, in my opinion.

| Nice NP Campground But Busy At Weekends | Campground is located on the East Side of the NP by the visitors center. It has the standard - picnic tables, fire rings, hot showers, restrooms and a store in the visitor's center to get ice, drinks including alcohol, groceries etc. Surprisingly it also has a swimming pool which is great way to cool down and relax after a day of hiking.
The campground is split into two, an RV section nearer the visitor center and then a tent section. I was in the tent section. Sites are fine, but close together and zero privacy. There is little to no shade either and it gets into the 90s during the day.
The campground gets very busy at the weekend and full of kids. People from the bay area tend to stay at the weekend, so it's not a quiet campground then. Also you get some people that park at the visitor center walk through the campground to get to the hiking trails, although most catch the shuttle. During the week the campground is much more quiet.
The NP has some great hiking trails with beautiful views or mountains and pinnacles as well as caves to explore and you'll see some condors overhead. However, it lacks the wow factor of Joshua Tree, Death Valley, Yosemite, Sequoia and Kings Canyone to name a few. I personally think it should still be a National Monument.
Overall great place to stay during the week to visit the park. The NP is worth a visit. You can cover everything you need to see in 2 days.

One of the best campgrounds we've stayed at. Conveniently located. Great and friendly staff. Well maintained and extremely clean facilities. Tent sites by the creek that offers a lot of privacy. Has got a small farm where our kids enjoyed petting and feeding the animals. Couldn't ask for anything more.

| Awesome place for stargazing | As far as amenities go, this place doesn't have anything. No hookups, no wi-fi or cable, just pit toilets and water faucets. But it's a campground in a national park so that's expected. Anyhow, we came here to gaze at the stars and we got just that. Marvelous! With the campground's elevation at 9000 or so feet, it feels like you can just reach up and pluck the stars from the sky. The sites are not big-rig friendly, though, and the management has restrictions on how long your vehicles should be for staying here. Only one pull-through site available. It's really an awesome place, though, with lots of trails leading to the glacier parts of Wheeler Peak.

| Excellent place to get away from urban life | The campground is adjacent to a working ranch and the Russian River. The atmosphere is peaceful and a bit isolated, so you can relax and enjoy the quiet if you want to get away from the noise of the city. However, it's not as far away from the city at all. If you need anything, Duncan Mills and Guerneville are a short ride away. Also, the beach is only a ten-minute walk. The campground is well-maintained. The sites by the river only have water and electric, but those at the middle of the campground have full hookups. They've got wi-fi and cable too. Restrooms and showers are clean but nothing luxurious. Staff are friendly and helpful. It's a great place for a getaway, and I plan to get away to here a lot in the future.

If you need a place to spend the night, this campground would do. Sites have full hookups but are spaced very close together. Wi-Fi worked okay while we were there. Kids enjoyed the pool and the playground. Clean and well kept. Not that much activities though for a typical KOA. A bit too expensive because of that. Wouldn't stay here for more than a couple of days.

| Great campground watch out for the critters | My friends and I are still reeling from a great weekend camping here. The place was really clean and well-maintained. The staff here was really friendly. Shady sites with fireplaces. Just keep an eye out of the critters. My friend almost stepped on a yellowjacket's nest while we were hiking on our first day. The next day, we came across a few skunks wandering close to our site. Good thing they didn't decide to pay us a visit. That would have been nasty.

Really great campground. Just a short bike ride from the wineries in Calistoga. Woodsey campground that's really quiet at night. We managed to get site 42 which was pretty level, shady and right along a small creekbed. There are some areas that got some poison oak, but for as long as you're careful where you step, it won't be a problem.
