| Deception Pass Camprgound | We have repeatedly enjoyed this large park for many years. There are many Canadian visitors so get there early for your weekend camping. The biggest attraction here is the Deception Pass Bridge. You can walk out on it, if youre daring, or park at the beach and hike the northside of the campground UP to the bridge. The lake is adjacent to the beach so you can swim in the ocean or the lake while youre at the beach. This pebblestone beach is beautiful to walk, or sit and watch the many boaters or ships navigate the Straight of Juan de Fuca.

This park is right on the water, next to the small Keystone ferry dock. The park has no protection from southern winds and only a few small trees. Many of the campers we saw had built shelters and walls from tarps. This also was a artillery post in which you can walk through the battery, visit the lighthouse or fly a kite.

Just to the south of Oak Harbor is this great state park with many areas within the park all accessible by car, bike, or foot. You will find a lower area with access to the beach, a lake area with trails, an area with miles of hiking and biking, a higher area next to the battery with spectacular views, including the Olympic Peninsula and the straight of Juan de Fuca, a secluded group camp that is set aside from the other camp ground and also has fabulous views. The many trails are well marked and they are for any level of hiker.
