Camper Length
I have just begun the search for a travel trailer. We are leaving our tent because of back issues and other medial reasons we need a readily accessible bathroom. I want small, but my husband wants a couch, I want to be able to continue camping at the Nationl forest campgrounds, they are my favorites because they are what they are. I have heard a variety of opinions on camper length that can fit on the pads with the Durango and also be able to get into the sites on the windy roads. My favorite trailer I have found so far is the Forest River Rockwood Mini Lte 2503S, it is 25'7" tip to tail. Has the slide out my husband likes and a sofa, lot of Windows, so it is light inside, a dinette and a Murphy bed that isn't a trifold. Is that to long to get back to campsites that are on windy roads, or should I stick with their 2109S that is only 21'7" long?

Re: Camper Length
I don't tow a trailer, we have a 29" class C & tow our car on a dolly, we Have been across the country & back, in MANY National Parks & National Forests, and never found our set up, too long, although at Bridge Bay in Yellowstone, we fit, but were a little cramped, there seems to be many "short" sites in Ca. compared to other states.
Some campgrounds, you just have to do your home work before you get there, we were told in some that we might not fit, but when you unhook the toad, and hang the back over the back end of the site, (if possible), you can shorten up a lot.

Re: Camper Length
I have heard that some State and National Parks do have a limit on size. I think it's 36' I would stick with a trailer or fifth wheel. It's great to be able to use the truck or car to do any running around that you might need to do. My friend just bought a 25' Fifth Wheel. with two slide outs and it has plenty of room for him and his wife and their dog.
I helped him bring it home when they got it. It tows great and is very easy to back in to any spot. It has lots of storage under. And you still have room in the bed of the truck if you need it. It is brand new and they got it for short money. They are a first time buyer and are very happy with it. I think that our next camper is going to be a step up from a trailer to a Fifth Wheel.

Re: Camper Length
How about staying small sized and taking out the dinette and replacing with a couch?

This is what we have done - we have an 18ft. with no slides. It fits everywhere we want to go camping.

We take out the dinette table and use the dinette benches (which face each other parallel to the wall).

I add another cushion on top for a little more give on the seat. A throw pillow goes next to the wall at the end of the bench. Dinette benches get a bad rap, but with the extra cushions it is pretty comfy.

I use a small table that is narrower in width than the original dinette table.
