First of all, there are no gate attendants at this park so you will need a gate code to get in. The roads are easy to navigate. Our campsite had a broken tree branch hanging down which prevented us from being able to open our slide, but after a call to the lake office, a host arrived with a chain saw and took care of the problem. We were in site 23 which has a great view of the lake. Nice covered and level picnic table, but the area around the fire ring was too sloped for chairs. Utilities worked well. Restrooms are rustic.

Sites are in great shape with nice spacing and very nice shelters over the picnic tables. They also have fire rings and waist high covered grills. Most sites are shaded and some have a great view of the lake. Many sites are not level, so bring plenty of leveling blocks. Park is quiet and has gas and groceries nearby. Don't wait until 2 o'clock on a Sunday to exit! There is only 1 dump station for 148 campsites, and huge lines of people waiting to use it can form which also blocks the exit from the park, as there is no bypass lane!

| Wonderful wildlife viewing! | This park is really nice! Roads are in excellent condition and trees are well-trimmed, making entry and exit easy. Campsite parking is asphalt and most are extra wide and extra long, with enough space for an RV and 2 or 3 additional vehicles! Most are level, but a few are not. Utilities are convenient and work well. Dump station has 3 lanes/drains to cut down on wait times. Campsites are well-kept and include a picnic table, lantern pole, waist high grill and fire ring. Restrooms and showers are modern and clean. Firewood is available for $5 a bundle. There are lots of things to do here, including hiking, fishing, nature center, observatory (Saturday night only), and tons of wildlife to view. (Yes, alligators!) The park is quiet and peaceful at least during the week while we were there. Verizon and T-Mobile service was very strong at park headquarters, and so-so in the campground. We received over 100 over-the-air TV channels! We really enjoyed our stay here and can’t wait to return!

The campsites and restroom here are newly built and very nice! Sites are level with lots of space. Parking space is concrete and walking space is crushed granite. There is nice spacing between sites. The main activity here is hiking. Be prepared for some noise here! There is a lot of road noise as there is a highway a mere 200 feet from the campground. There is also occasional noise from a rocket facility 6 miles away and an artillery range 10 miles away. (See photo.) That being said, we would still stay here again when in the area.

It is a long drive from headquarters to the campground, but once you’re there the sites are nice, with most being level and many having a nice view of the lake. There was nice spacing between sites. All hookups worked well, and other campers were extremely quiet, so it was really nice. Lots of armadillos and wild pigs here!

| Clean, quiet, and well-kept. | This is a clean, well-kept campground that is quiet and dark at night, so it is great for listening to wildlife and stargazing. It is easy to access and navigate, and utilities all work well. Site 19 has the most privacy, if that is important to you. There is a hiking trail, Texas state longhorn herd, and fort tours. No OTA TV or Verizon service. Nice place to stay for a day or two.

This is a very nice park. Scenic, well-maintained, and clean. Roads are easy to navigate and parking is easy. The sites are well separated by thick brush so lots of privacy. Water pressure is high at 85 PSI, so bring your regulator. All utilities worked well and were close by. Lots to do with hiking, fishing, boating, mini golf, etc. Nice cabins are being remodeled right now. Some downsides while we were there included utility company traffic through the park as they replaced some power poles, and some closed trails and machinery noise while they clear brush from a large portion of the property. Hopefully this will all go away soon though. It was easy to pick up multiple local TV stations, and we had Verizon cell service, although it was only 10 Mbps download and 7 Mbps upload with 2 bars. Most campsites are level and have nice tables, fire rings, and grills. There is currently a burn ban, but we were still allowed to have charcoal or wood fires in the pedestal grill. The park hosts kept the place clean, and they have contactless check-in. There were lots of birds. We heard owls and coyotes calling at night. Very nice natural setting, yet has food, gas, and groceries just a few miles away. The nearby Roadhouse Bastrop is a great place for burgers and sandwiches, and there is a Buc-ee's convenience store less than 4 miles away for supplies.

This park is easy to navigate and has great scenery. The trees and lake are beautiful! Utilities work well. The full hookup campsites are VERY close together and are strangley set up. Our fire ring was actually closer to our neighbor's table than it was to ours! The other neighbor's table was right outside our RV window, and was also right next to our sewer connection!
We also happened to be there right during someone's family renuion/retirement party, and they had all the sites in the entire loop reserved! They were nice, but people were constantly walking through our campsite. This also highlighted the fact that there is no enforcement of the rules there. Rules regarding keeping dogs on leashes, number of vehicle per site, number of people per site, etc. were not enforced. We were there for a week and never once saw a park ranger. The hosts drove through once a day, but never addressed these issues. Speaking of hosts, one showed up on a riding mower and started mowing our campsite while we were outside cooking breakfast! I realize they have to mow, but our site had no tall grass, and all he did was kick up dust onto everything! He did stop when I asked, but I can't believe he did it to begin with! And there were other areas that needed mowing much more that ours!
There are lots of small birds to watch here, and easy access to the lake. The tent campsites have great views of the lake, and the sites without full hookups

| Not crazy about this park. | We weren't crazy about this park. While it is on a nice lake, the sites are way too close together, and the rules are not enforced at all. Rules regarding keeping dogs on leashes, number of vehicles per site, number of people per site, and quiet hours are not enforced. We never saw a park ranger or host even on a drive-through. Some people may like this scenario, but we don't. Utilities work well, and sites are gravel/dirt.

| Nice beach and ship watching! | This park is easy to get to and easy to navigate. No tree branches to dodge. (But also no shade.) All utilities work well. Over 70 OTA TV stations available. The back in sites are short but nicely spaced. The pull through sites are longer but close together. There are lights in the park that keep it pretty lit up at night, so be prepared for that. The showers, restrooms, and laundry area are rustic, but clean. Hosts are friendly and helpful. . The beach is nice, and this time of year you have it pretty much to yourself. The LNG plant and ship channel are right next door, so there is lots of fun ship watching, but you also get some noise from the plant and the trains.
There are some hiking trails on site, and a bird sanctuary a few blocks away.
