Most central location for Acadia and environs. In loop A, we found the sites to be a pretty decent size with decent tree and brush screening. Many of the sites are "backwards" with regards to placement of the fire rings and the one-way roads, so we ended up going in the "wrong" way, but it wasn't a problem. The bathrooms were clean and well maintained. Generators are only allowed at certain hours, which keeps it pretty quiet. Very woodsy, but without any really great views or easy access to spectacular spots in the park, which is why we rate it 4 instead of 5.

We stayed here in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here the beginning of June, before the prime season. Not too crowded. Sites are small, but adequate enough for our 28 foot fifth wheeler. Enjoyed the hiking trails, especially the one along the ocean. Cadillac mountain was cloud-covered so we were not able to see the 360 degree view from there. Rangers were knowledgable and helpful; they strictly enforced quiet hours. We recommend taking Route 198 to get to Route 3, so you avoid Bar Harbor. The streets in Bar Harbor are crowded and narrow--not great if you're pulling a trailer.

We stayed here in a 5th Wheel.

A challenge for bigger rigs

Just like most campgrounds in national parks, Blackwoods doesn't have any hookups. But that's not a problem, as there's a dumpstation nearby and paid showers just outside the entrance of the CG. There are also free firewood available, although the rangers often ask campers to take only what they need. It's a very quiet park, although some campers staying there at the same time as us keep their generators on all day, which was the only noise in the park, and the rangers don't really enforce quiet time. It's also a challenge to park a big rig here. The sites are tighter than those found in other CGs in other national parks, so if you've got a big rig, you have to dodge trees and low-lying branches and risk a few scratches before you can park on your site.

We stayed here in a Class C Motorhome.
